Summer Work
My oldest son is home from college for the summer. Every year he works at Great Adventure and saves his money to live on for the upcoming school year. Last year his savings lasted till December, at which time, I started sending him money at school to live on. I'm a single mother, with three children. I make a very modest salary and get very little child support. This summer I let him bring home his boyfriend for the summer. He has NOT accepted his job back at Great Adventure [GA]. He says he is looking for an internship. I want him to work at GA until he finds something. He & his bf are up all night watching TV, playing video games, eating lots of food. They wake up at 3pm. This is the first time I have EVER had a problem with him. He refuses to listen to me. HELP. Anyone out there with an answer. I need a good dialogue I can start with him to get him to act responsibly. I can't afford the food and am scared to death of the cost of this to me. All answers are welcomed.

Laurie,
ReplyDeleteYou must sit down with your son,who has been wonderful up to now,and tell him how you feel.Always use I am disppointed in the way this is turning out .Y
our friend will have to go home,if,you both don't work.I can't afford to keep you both over the summer. You should have diligently looked for an internship before you came home and Now u are left with no other alternative but to work at GA....So tell me your plan of action because I cannot have you staying up late all night then sleeping until 3PM.It is NOT going to work!!!!U have to do Tough Love!!!!! Sandy
I agree with sandra, you need to talk to him, give him NO money, and tell him working is NOT an option but a requirement. You must lay down the law in your house and tell him if he does not follow the rules his bf needs to leave. Be prepared for him to leave, of course he will threaten you with this be prepared. Stand your ground or you will lose your mind this summer! Hang in there, I think he will come to his senses. He is just exercising his new found independence gained while away at college, they learn to live by their own rules.....
ReplyDeletemany talks, realization finally set in. he is working.
